On my birthday 2011 I looked at my life and did not like where it was, and set out in a new direction to get me moved out to the woods. In addition, my 5 year plan is to be mortgage free as well asaving my dream. I traded my $80k mortgage for an $8k mortgage and this project is to remodel this 1982 mobile home into "The Chalet".
After I had to sell "Junkyard Molly", my 74 Monte Carlo in 2006. I had always had one eye open for another one since then. I found this one on Craigslist st the right time and the right price for $400 in East Texas. The next week I found an engine and transmission which I picked up for $200. I put the drivetrain in the car in December 2010 and put the engine on on my birthday in Jan 2010.
I have been wanting to travel and camp for a long time, but I didn't want some big RV dragging me down, and I didn't like tenting it either. I was thinking about building a cabover camper when one of my friends turned me on to Teardrop trailers. With the small footprint in weight and size, and it's classic styling. I was hooked. I started planning it on my birthday 2008. The build started officially March 15, 2008 and I started camping Sept 9/09
I happened upon this '71 stepside in Dec '06 from an ad in the paper. There was no carb due to a carb fire and the rear end of the truck had been shortened by a over a foot in a seriously jerry rigged fashion. I picked it up for $900 which ended up being $500 after getting a free $150 tow home, and $250 from my law suit when they smashed the front of the tuck on that tow home. I have just put my 5th engine in this truck and every thing I have done, I have needed to do st least three times. I started drivng it on my Birthday Jan '07
I got this truck at the junkyard for $500 right next to where I got Junkyard Molly, and it was going to the crusher if I didn't buy it. There was no rust on the truck whatsoever, but every single body panel had been hit somehow. It had been a city worktruck all it's life, and THEN it was abused... I replaced the front clip and doors, then painted it and replaced the interior. Boght on my birthday Jan '06 and traded it for a short lived 76 Cutlass in Sept 06'. Shoulda kept this one.
This 74 Monte Carlo was a real find. This is my best and most in depth restoration. I named it "Junkyard Molly". It is the original factory med blue color. I found it in a junkyard. I originally intended to get parts off of it, but when the owner said that he sometimes sells complete bodies for $250 to be used on the dirt track, I knew I wanted to save it. The tires were still full of air after sitting in the back of the junkyard with the windows up for 7 years. I bought it in Jan of 2004 for my birthday. Had to sell 6-20-06.
This 75 Monte Carlo was given to me by one of my Monte Carlo club members because he had been misled about the condtion of the car, and it had alot of problems, and he got sick of it. I spent alot of time on it and got it running great and actually drove it cross country to the National Monte Carlo convention in June of 2004. July, 7th 2004 some bastards stole it and stripped it down to the frame. Ivy, R.I.P. I gave what was left to my friend at the same yard that I got Molly from.
I bought my Blue 73 on Ebay auction in June of 2000. $800 for the car, $800 to truck it down from Long Island NY. It is an all original one owner car with 130k, it has all power, and swivel buckets. I sold it on ebay five years later on eBay for $1100 because I had too many Monte Carlos, and delivered it to the guy here in Texas.
A year later, I found this 74 near Bachman Lake in Dallas. I owned it for 18 years. It started as Medium Blue, and I bought it as Bright Red with a new LT1 drivetrain. It stayed that way for 5 years. I then fell in love with a Monte at a car lot that was Yellow with a White interior. I painted it the same color, and found a white bucket seat interior. After 5 more years, I painted it Maroon, and put in a Tan interior. Again, 5 years later I changed to a Maroon interior to match. I finally sold it to Hans, a club member who lives in Holland who is thankfully restoring it.
My first car was this 73 Monte. I only owned this car for a few months when was 16 and living at home. I had a friend Allen Stann, who had a beautiful Black on Black 76 Monte who could help me rebuild the smoking engine, my family was moving an hour away from town within a month. I still needed to drive back to play in my band, so I had to have a car that could do it. Allen bought it from me for $400..
